Automatic Translation in Premiere Pro
What is automatic video translation?
Automatic video translation is the process of converting subtitles from one language to another using artificial intelligence. With Smart Captions, you can translate your videos to dozens of languages easily directly within Premiere Pro, allowing you to reach new audiences worldwide without wasting hours on manual translation.
Why is it important to translate videos?
Automatic video translation dramatically expands your target audience and allows you to reach viewers worldwide. A video with subtitles in multiple languages improves accessibility, increases SEO visibility, and allows viewers to consume your content in their native language. This makes your content more relevant and creates a deeper connection with international audiences.
How does it work behind the scenes?
Smart Captions' translation system uses advanced AI models trained on millions of sentences in various languages. The system doesn't just translate word by word, but understands the context, culture, and nuances of the source and target languages. The result is a natural, accurate, and professional translation that fits the pace and style of the original video.
How to use the translation feature in SMART CAPTIONS
Preparation steps
- Open a new sequence in Premiere Pro
- Add your raw materials (footage) to the timeline
- Edit the video as needed (cuts, removing silence, etc.)
- Make sure the final text output in the video is as you want before proceeding to translation
Translation Setup - Main Steps
Activate the translation mechanism - Click on the translation toggle to activate it (when it's lit blue, it's active)
Select source language (Speech) - Choose the language spoken in the video:
- Choose a specific language from the dropdown list
- Or choose Auto Detect option if the spoken language is unknown
Select target language (Text) - Choose which language you want to translate your video to from the variety of options in the menu
Additional Settings (can be done in any order)
Adjust words per line - Use the word slider to determine how many words appear in each subtitle line:
- Drag the slider left for fewer words per line (convenient for fast-paced videos)
- Drag the slider right for more words per line (suitable for videos with slower speech)
Punctuation settings (PUNCTUATION) - Choose whether to include punctuation marks in subtitles:
- Full punctuation adds clarity to the text and makes reading easier
- No punctuation creates a cleaner look and suits certain content styles
Performing the translation
After setting all options, you have two ways to perform the translation:
- Selected segment translation - Choose a specific segment from your sequence and click the "Transcribe In & Out" button
- Full video translation - To translate the entire sequence at once, click the "Transcribe Sequance" button
For long videos, it's recommended to translate segment by segment to check translation quality and make adjustments before continuing.
